About the Production
Picture Perfect is a short student film about the relationship between people and the media they consume and how that relationship is often one-sided and manipulative. The story follows Hannah, a teenage girl who, after coming home from a terrible prom night, finds she can communicate with Harry, a young man on her TV screen. Harry’s alluring presence and apparent sympathy draw Hannah in until he makes a strange offer - he wants to bring Hannah into his TV world. Hannah must work through a difficult string of emotions and decide whether Harry’s offer is too good to be true.
Some key themes of this film include trust and vulnerability, manipulation, recognizing self-worth, and navigating adolescence in the age of mass media.
Our goal is to relate the power of media to influence our self-perceptions, habits, and decisions to a one-on-one personal relationship. Just as relationships can, at times, be manipulative and dishonest, so can the power dynamic between an individual and the advertisements, news, entertainment, and other content they consume. In the current digital age, it is up to all of us to recognize our self-worth to resist the false glamour of TV or the expertly-designed addictiveness of social media.
This story represents an extremely relevant issue which affects us all, and we would love your support on our journey to make this film possible!
